On cold Winter nights on the outskirts of London, fallow deer peer from the woods
As soon as things start to quieten down, they make a dash for the city streets
By around 3 o'clock in the morning, they find a quiet spot and settle down to feed
Gradually the bolder deer venture into the busier streets, only dashing into the shadows when a car or bus passes by. The lush, council-maintained lawns are worth it
The larger herds stick to the playing fields, where they are less likely to be disturbed
Only very occasionally migrating en masse from one area to another. Collisions with cars can kill, but there's safety in numbers
During Winter months, food is scarce in the forest. The Autumn harvest has passed and the new Spring shoots are yet to emerge
Urban and suburban lawns are irresistible and with more than enough to go round, it makes the risks of urban adventure worth taking
Its hard to predict when the deer will come into the city, but frosty nights seem to be best for the big bucks
Any scrap of grass is fair game - the street lights and warmth of the city encourage new growth earlier than anywhere else
By around 5 in the morning, the deer start thinking about heading home after their night out, back into the woods before the city’s residents start to stir
People sat at the bus stops on the way to work may never realise that wild deer have been feeding around their feet just hours before
The deer slip away in to the night, barely leaving a trace of their presence, sheltering in the safety of the woods until the next night falls
